AU; Gale and Hermione → requested by anonymous
Gale dove into the freezing lake, exhausted from hunting. He had plenty of anger, and he put all of it into finding food for his family and the Everdeens. He had stopped watching the Games altogether. The Katniss on TV seemed distant from the Catnip he knew and loved, especially when he watched her with Peeta. He grimaced as he thought of the last part of the Games he had watched, of those two in the cave.
His lungs were ready to explode and Gale realized he had been underwater for far too long. He broke the surface and drew in a long breath. Panting, he started toward shore. What he saw surprised him.
A girl around his age, maybe older, sat next to his heap of clothes and his hunting weapons. Idiot, Gale scolded himself for letting his guard down. You’re lucky it’s just a girl and not a Peacekeeper.
As he got closer, he noticed she did not look like a typical girl from District 12. Her clothes were nicer than even the more wealthy families. Madge Undersee, the mayor’s daughter, would have looked shabby next to this girl. But she lacked the obnoxious style and makeup of the Capitol. Gale could not help but stare. She was beautiful.
“Hello,” the girl smiled warmly. Her voice sounded different. It wasn’t a Capitol accent. Something further away.
“Hi,” Gale said, raising an eyebrow at her. “What brings you here?”
“Dumbledore sent me,” she answered, as if he should know who that is. “I’m Hermione Granger and I am here to help you win the war.”
Gale was stunned. “War,” he said slowly. “There is no war in Panem, and certainly not in District 12.”
“Not yet,” Hermione smiled, handing him his clothes. She was blushing. “It’s lovely to meet you, Mr. Hawthorne. Now if you’d follow me, and put those clothes on, maybe we could both concentrate on the task at hand.”
Gale hadn’t told her his name. But she intrigued him, and he trusted her immediately for some strange reason. Maybe it was because she was beautiful, and maybe the spark in her eye reminded him of a girl from the Seam who was currently fighting for her life.
Peeta Mellark and the Half-Blood Baguette
he’S THROWING BREAD
this is freaking hilarious :]]
Wizards raising their wands when Dumbledore dies, the people of District 11 raising their three middle fingers when Rue dies. Farewell. It means thanks, it means admiration, it means good-bye to someone you love.

The magic has ended. Let the games begin.
Stupid headcanon: Finnick Odair is Ron Weasley’s great-great-great-great-great-great-great grandson. Everyone thought the magic in the family was lost. But Finnick won his Hunger Games using a Trident that he didn’t know was actually a magic wand. LOLOL.

“Safe to do what? Starve? Work like slaves? Send their kids to the reaping? You haven’t hurt people - you’ve given them an opportunity. They just have to be brave enough to take it. There’s already been talk in the mines. People who want to fight. Don’t you see? It’s happening! It’s finally happening! If there’s an uprising in District Eight, why not here? Why not everywhere? This could be it, the thing we’ve been -“
“Stop it! You don’t know what you’re saying. The Peacekeepers outside of Twelve, they’re not like Darius, or even Cray! The lives of district people - they mean less than nothing to theme!” I say.
“That’s why we have to fight!” he answers harshly.
“No! We have to leave here before they kill us and a lot of other people, too!” I’m yelling again, but I can’t understand why he’s doing this. Why doesn’t he see what’s so undeniable?
Gale pushes me roughly away from him. “You leave, then. I’d never go in a million years.”
“You were happy enough to go before. I don’t see how an uprising in District Eight does anything but make itmore important that we leave. You’re just mas about-” No, I can’t throw Peeta in his face. “What about your family?”
“What about the other families, Katniss? The ones who can’t run away? Don’t you see? It can’t be about just saving us anymore. Not if the rebellion’s begun!” Gale shakes his head, not hiding his disgust with me. “You could do much.” He throws Cinna’s gloves at my feet. “i changed my mind. I don’t want anything hey made in the Capitol.” And he’s gone.
